Welcome Drinks – Friday 25th September, Interval (Student’s Union).
The department will run some introductory talks to get you ready for the semester on the Friday of Intro Week. Afterwards, we’ll meet you from the Hicks Building to go to Interval for welcome drinks and give you the chance to meet and chat to some physics students from the department in a better environment than a lecture theatre.
BBQ – Saturday 26th September, Weston Park 2pm (The Edge/The Ridge 1.45pm)
Free food! Now we definitely have your attention. From 2pm in Weston Park we’ll be hosting our first barbeque with nibbles galore. There will be a range of food, so to the vegetarians - have no fear! So no one has trouble finding us, committee members will be at The Edge and The Ridge at 1.45pm to walk down to the park; these are the bars situated within Endcliffe and Ranmoor accommodation, respectively.
We know this may be optimistic as it relies on good weather, but in case of rain our contingency plan is to have a coffee social in Interval from 2pm. Weather updates will be given via our Facebook group.
Casual Drinks – Monday 28th September, Vodka Revolution 7pm
After the first day of lectures we’ll be having a get together in our sponsor bar for our famous ‘Casual Drinks’. Members will be able to receive their discount cards here which will give them access to all the great deals on offer! This will hopefully give you a little taster of the socials to come, give you a chance to meet more of our members and, as usual, have some great fun.
Ice Skating – Thursday 1st October, Ice Sheffield (Hicks Building 7pm)
Ice skating in Sheffield is pretty cheap and makes for an awesome social. We will meet outside the Hicks Building entrance at 7pm to get the tram to Ice Sheffield. Prices for skate hire and tram fare will be posted on the Facebook page nearer the date. Afterwards we will probably end up in Bar One (the union bar) for a few drinks and laughs.
Pub Golf – Monday 5th October, The Place 7pm (The Edge/The Ridge 6.45pm)
Pub Golf will be our first bar crawl of the year and is legendary among current and past members alike. We’ll meet at The Place (a pub in Broomhill) at 7pm but again, committee will be at The Edge and The Ridge at 6.45pm to meet anyone who wants help finding it. The theme is golf fancy dress so dig around for some argyle socks (as always, the more comical, the better!). We’ll end the night at the club situated in the union so this is one not to be missed!
Candid Camera – Thursday 15th October, Bar One 7pm (The Edge/The Ridge 6.30pm)
Candid Camera is a photo treasure hunt. We will be split into teams, attempt to complete the checklist and then meet up at Vodka Revolution. Challenges in the past have ranged from as many people in the IC revolving doors as possible (the IC is the main library) to making a human pyramid. There will also be a prize for the winning team!
