For the past month or so we have been taking your feedback on how Physoc has run this year, and we will be trying to use your feedback to try and make the society even better than before!
With 97% of responses saying they've enjoyed Physoc this year it's safe to say we will be repeating some of the big socials, but thanks to suggestions made in the survey we will be holding more casual icebreaker/get to know people socials through out the year and not just during first term. We're also going to watch where we put the fancy dress socials as we know they can be expensive and we will try to make sure you have as much notice as possible for those socials so you have chance to gather cheap costume parts.
Our most popular social type has come out as bar crawls and ice skating, and don't worry we fully intend for there to be lots of them next year, in fact we are currently planning a couple bar crawls and the first negligible friction social for you! We will try to have a few more relaxed socials next year which will tie in with having more icebreaker socials, with things like 'after work' drinks so people can drop in for a chat without feeling they need to go out afterwards.
There have been suggestions of more socials with other societies and other Physocs, so I'm getting in touch with a some of the engineering societies and also York and Leeds Physoc to see what we can get organised there. Hopefully, we can at least get a trip to one of them going or a camping trip seeing as we're so close to the peak district!
As for the Hicks Ball, The Forest Moon of Endor seems to be fully booked next year, and I sent a letter to the Lost City of Atlantis asking if they could host us but apparently the post office haven't seen that postman in a while so I think we'll be booking City Hall again this year. All other feedback for that has been passed onto our Events Coordinator Alex to consider while he plans it, although I'm going to have to say no to monkey butlers, sorry!
The holiday is looking like it will be held just after exams again, although it is undecided where at the moment but Venus is definitely out of our budget, sorry to whoever suggested that! Again all suggestions have been passed on to Alex for when he's organising it next term.
We will continue to keep you updated via Facebook and Twitter as we have always done, but we will also be introducing this blog, an Email Newsletter for those interested and more posters around the department to let people know what's coming up that month! Unfortunately making events on floppy disks and VHS tapes before throwing them around the department does have health and safety risks, and there are some logistical issues with the suggestion of having a yogurt cup and string network from Hicks to every members house so neither of those will be happening next term.
Look out for another survey next term, it's definitely good to know what we're doing right and what we need to do better. I hope everyone's exam results have come back as they hoped!
