It's been a while since I updated on here, and there's been a few socials since so I'll start with our final 'ice breaker' socials of the term.
We had our first Casual Drinks on the first day of lectures to give everyone a chance to meet up and chat with members in their year and other years. There was a fairly large turn out with a lot of people stopping by just for a couple drinks before heading home again. But overall we had 50 or so people stop by, and it was lovely to get a chance to speak to everyone now the hectic-ness of Freshers week was over.
On October 1st at 7pm we all met in the Hicks Building foyer and then headed down to the tram stop to get to IceSheffield (all very uneventful) until we got to IceSheffield and asked for tickets to the skating. As it turns out the rink doesn't open on Thursdays for skating so that was the end of that idea. After much discussion we hopped back on the tram across to Centertainment where we eventually decided on bowling for the evening. Despite not being able to actually go ice skating everyone seemed to have a good evening at the bowling and this just means we'l have to do another Negligible Friction social later in the term (this time we promise to check the rink opening times first).

Now for the first big bar crawl of term, Pub Golf. The aim of this social is each team has to try and get the lowest score possible by beating par for the drink (alcoholic or non alcoholic) at that hole (pub) and obviously to look ridiculous in our visors and argyl socks. Kicking off the social by gathering first years from the Edge and the Ridge and meeting everyone at the Place before the free for all that is choosing teams. Once everyone was signed up to a team the next challenge was getting the 80+ people served at the bar, everyone wanting either a WKD or J20. After the first round (a quick strawpedo for most) we moved onto the next hole- Broomhill Tavern where we have easily the worst drinks of the evening. The option here is Turbo Shandy (a mix of lager, smirnoff ice and apple sours) or a pint of fruit juice and coke, once everyone had made their decisions each team encouraged each other as they drank.
After this we worked our way from Broomhill past the union and down west street, with everyone choosing between alcoholic and non alcoholic choices at each pub/bar and attempting to beat par. By the time we made it to Soyo everyone was in the mood for dancing and we stayed for a while as everyone filled the dance floor. As midnight crept closer we realised it was going to be a long and rainy walk to Leadmilll and everyone started heading off in groups. In the final group we even ended up next to Jessica Ennis' post box on our way! And as always when we arrived to the club the Physoc presence was pretty obvious- especially with almost all of the 80+ on the social carrying on to Leadmill. All in all, a successful pub golf and we will definitely be repeating it the same time next year!
See you next time!
